frequently asked questions

how much do sessions cost? do you offer sliding scale or take insurance?

Session fees are set to support the quality, consistency, and depth of this practice:

Individual Adult - 50-minutes: $200

Individual Adolescent/Teen - 50-minutes: $220

Family and Couples/Relationships - 60-75 minutes: $300-$375

Longer sessions are available as requested and are prorated.

I have a limited number of sliding scale spots, which are currently full. I am not in-network with insurance companies. I’m happy to provide a statement of services or “superbill,” which clients can submit to their health insurance company for reimbursement for out-of-network care. It is recommended that you check directly with your insurance plan for their reimbursement policies.

how often will we meet?

Generally, I recommend meeting weekly, at least for the first couple months, in order to build a strong foundation for therapy. Sometimes every other week can work well for some people depending on their therapeutic needs and budget. We’ll talk about what might work best for you, and we can always re-evaluate together if things change.

where will we meet?

Right now, I mostly see clients virtually. If there is a strong interest and need, I could possibly arrange to meet in person at an office in Berkeley.

what actually happens in a therapy session?

It depends! I meet you where you are, so every session is tailored to each person on that particular day of their life.

Generally, I invite checking in about how you’ve been doing and feeling, and if there is any specific issue(s) that you’d like to focus on for that session. Some people bring in a list of things, others show up not clear yet.

Either way, it’ll be a mix of you sharing, and me paying close attention and offering questions and reflections to clarify, deepen understanding, explore, empathize, gently challenge, and/or support you in expressing and processing what needs to be expressed and processed. Sessions can include verbal conversation, pausing to check in with your body, heart, and energy, guided imagery, psychospiritual practices, and expressive art activities.

You might be supported to access and release deep emotion and trauma energy, deepen understanding of long standing patterns and habits that no longer serve you, and/or feel more clarity and grounding amidst a chaotic time.

how long does therapy last?

Again, it depends :) This depends on each person’s situation and goals, and essentially how long the process may last to start feeling better. We will check in periodically about your progress and can decide together if and when it feels right to end, take a break, or “graduate” from therapy. I recommend we have at least one closing session before ending, to reflect and celebrate progress, and emphasize what you’d like to continue focusing and working on in your life.
